Transfer to Wilson Airport for your Schedule flight to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Located right on the equator, with scenic views of Mount Kenya and 90,000 acres of land, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is known to be East Africa’s largest sanctuary for black rhinos. With 165 currently living within its borders, these animals are a large part of what makes this area so special. But it is two specific rhinoceros that are a must-visit while in the conservancy—Najin and Fatu—the last remaining Northern White Rhinos in the world.
The conservancy encompasses the Sweetwaters Game Reserve where the chimpanzee sanctuary is located and the old surrounding ranches which have reverted to wilderness. Since 2004 game has come back into the area in large numbers and populations have increased 15% each year. Open plains, acacia forests, hilly slopes and swamps provide diverse habitats for a wide range of species. There are numerous black rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, Grévy's zebra, giraffe, cheetah, Thomson's gazelle, Grant's gazelle, black-backed jackals, ostrich, baboons, waterbuck, oryx, eland and more. Birds will not disappoint with several hundred species present on the conservancy.
In the morning after a heavy breakfast, you will be driven to the airstrip and board a scheduled flight to the Maasai Mara. Upon landing at the bush airstrip, a guide will meet you and drive you to Sanctuary Olonana - situated in the heart of Kenya’s Big Game country — rich with hippo, elephant, buffalo, hyena, giraffe, armies of gazelle and famed prides of lion. Immersed in this magnificent wildlife haven, 14 chic, contemporary suites are designed with clean lines and an organic feel, with floor to ceiling glass doors that fold open onto Mara River views. Featuring plush king-sized beds, overhead fans and an indulgent daybed on the deck for the ultimate relaxation, three suites offer an extra room which is ideal for families.
